Chaise de Nursing Victorienne honors American furniture history through passionate restoration. This remarkable nursing rocker, believed to date from the late 1800s, underwent intensive 36-hour transformation celebrating Victorian-era craftsmanship and maternal care.
Victorian nursing rockers were built lower than standard chairs, allowing corseted women to comfortably reach and tend to their children while maintaining proper posture. The restoration began with careful cleaning and stripping to reveal beautiful mahogany construction with mahogany veneer paneling. Peeling veneer on front panels was meticulously reglued with archival care. Light sanding preceded Varathane Premium Wood Stain in Red Mahogany, enhancing natural grain and bringing warmth to the piece.
The upholstery restoration maintained integrity of original seat and back frame construction, preserving authentic period springs and canvas straps. New foam and batting provide modern comfort, while seat reinforcement includes metal brackets and additional screws. Luxurious soft shimmery pink crushed velvet creates beautiful contrast against rich mahogany, secured with traditional nickel hammered tacks maintaining period-appropriate craftsmanship.
